Frequently Asked Questions:

What is copyediting, and why do I need it?

Copyediting is a crucial step that involves reviewing and improving written content to ensure it is accurate, clear, consistent, and error-free. When copyediting, I will review your text for grammar, spelling, punctuation, style, and formatting issues, with the goal of enhancing the overall quality and readability of the material. Whether you’re a grant writer, student, business owner, or professional, investing in copyediting can improve the effectiveness and impact of your communication.

Do you have professional training in copyediting?

I have a certificate in copyediting from the University of California-San Diego, and I keep my skills sharp by taking professional development classes from the Editorial Freelancers Association. I earned my MA in History from Iowa State University and a BA in Art and Art History from the University of Iowa. For more, please see my LinkedIn page.

What file formats do you work with?

I edit in all word processing formats (Word, Pages, Google Docs) as well as PowerPoint and .pdf. I am also able to directly edit design files in InDesign or Illustrator.

What is your pricing structure?

To get started, we’ll discuss what level of edit you are looking for, the complexity of your project, your timeline, and how you would like your file(s) returned to you—these are the primary factors in determining pricing. Depending on the level of editing you require, pricing ranges from $0.035 per word to $0.045 per word, or a project may be priced at an hourly rate. My fees are based on the industry standard. For more, see the EFA rate sheet.
